Dollar a Day for Local Service Businesses: $1 a Day Behind Proof

Dollar a Day puts $1 a day for 7 days behind content that has already proven itself. You read the numbers at day 7, kill the bottom 90%, and put $30 over 30 days behind the winners. This guide covers the rules, the first week, the budget and the targeting.

It is signal detection, not cheap ads

Dollar a Day is a signal-detection system, not "cheap ads": small money buys real data about what deserves big money. Boosting amplifies a winner; it does not rescue a flop. The numbers decide, not your favorite.

Digital plumbing comes first

Before you boost anything, put your digital plumbing in place: pixel, analytics, Google Business Profile and review flow. "Boosting without a pixel is reach you can't retarget." The digital plumbing guide covers the setup. Your Google Business Profile gives the ad's click somewhere credible to land.

The rules

  • Boost only proven content: saves, shares, comments and watch time show the audience already voted.
  • Run $1 a day for 7 days per asset. Layer one new asset per day; five assets peak at $5 a day.
  • Kill the bottom 90% at day 7.
  • Put $30 over 30 days behind each winner.
  • Collabs and third-party proof jump the queue.

The proven content comes from your real work, which is what the Content Factory captures.

Week one, laid out

  • Day 1: boost your best proven piece at $1 a day.
  • Days 2–5: add one asset per day, so daily spend climbs from $2 to $5.
  • Days 7–11: each asset hits its day-7 read: kill or scale.
  • Day 8 on: layer next week's five from fresh ingredients.

Read each day-7 result through MAA (Metrics, Analysis, Action): what happened, why, and the kill, re-cut or scale call.

The budget

  • Testing: 5 assets × $7 = $35.
  • Scaling: 1–2 winners × $30 = $30–$60.
  • Total program: under $100 a month.

In his Nine Triangles framework, Dennis Yu suggests putting about 90% of your effort behind your greatest hits and 10% behind new or seasonal pieces. Typically, 10% of sales goes back into marketing.

Targeting comes last

Choose targeting after the content:

  1. Warm first: video viewers, profile visitors, pixel traffic and customer lists.
  2. Then: followers of the bigger names and brands your customers already trust.
  3. Cold last: lookalikes of your warm audiences, only after an asset proves itself.

Facebook is for the neighborhood, YouTube for the "how much does it cost" searches, and your Google Business Profile gives the click a credible place to land.

Time it to your season

Every trade has a wave. Boost prevention content 30 days ahead of yours, and boost proof the week it happens.

Where to start

Find the piece of content your audience has already engaged with most. Check that your pixel, analytics and Google Business Profile are working. Then boost that piece at $1 a day for 7 days and read the result at day 7.
